Fun and Easy Preschool Halloween Crafts
Preschool kids love Halloween. Distract them from all of that candy by doing fun preschool Halloween crafts.
Spider Web Craft
Supplies
- Paper plate (or poster board circle)
- Black paint
- White yarn
- Scissors
Directions
- Paint the paper plate with black paint (or if you dislike paint as much as I do, cut a circle out of black poster board)
- Cut small slits around the circle (this is great scissor practice... even my 2 year old did this alone!)
- Cut a long piece of white yarn and slide one end into a slit to start. Have your child use the slits to wrap the yarn around the circle to create his web (great for concentration and fine motor skills needed for
writing
)
- Leave a length of yarn hanging from the circle and attach a spider (try the egg carton spiders below.)
- Make several of these easy preschool halloween crafts, hang from the celing, and ENJOY!
Pumpkin Preschool Halloween Craft

- Orange paint, crayon, or marker
- Black construction paper or marker
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Directions
- Print out Pumpkin Printable onto white paper or card stock.
- Color or paint the pumpkin orange and the stem/leaves green.
- Your child can create a jack-o-lantern face for the pumpkin based on ability level.
- Cut shapes out of black paper (triangles, circles, mouth shapes) and have your toddler use a glue stick to create a face (Remember- let him do it however he wants!)
- Your younger preschooler can draw the eyes, nose, and mouth with a black marker
- Your older preschooler can cut out shapes from black construction paper and glue them on to her jack-o-lantern
Halloween Paper Bag Pumpkin
Supplies
- Paper lunch bag
- Orange paint
- Black construction paper or marker
- Green construction paper
- Newspaper
- Green pipe cleaner
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Directions
- Open the paper bag, crinkle up newspaper, and stuff the bag with the newspaper (leave about 2 inches at top so that the bag will close.
- Gather top of bag to create a “stem” and twist pipe cleaner around it to close.
- Paint the pumpkin orange and stem brown or green.
- While the paint is drying, create “leaves”
- Trace child’s hands on green paper
- Help to cut out or have child cut out the hands (depending on ability and age)
- Once the pumpkin is dry, glue hand “leaves” next to the stem
- To create a jack-o-lantern…
- Use a black marker to draw face on the pumpkin
- Or…glue cut out eyes, nose, and mouth on the pumpkin
Notes
- If your kids make several pumpkin preschool halloween crafts, you can group them together on a ledge, countertop, or the floor for a great “pumpkin patch”!
Halloween Candy Jars
Supplies
- Orange or black paint
- Clean & dry glass jars of various sizes (I bought mine, but this is a great way to use those empty jelly and pickle jars)
- Variety of your favorite Halloween candy (we used gummy worms, candy corn, & caramels)
- Optional: Halloween scrapbook paper
Directions
- Take tops off of jars and paint with black or orange paint
*Optional: Cut a circle of scrapbook paper and glue in center of lid
- After lids dry, fill jar with candy and put on the lid (THAT’S IT!)
Notes
- A preschool halloween craft that is delicious and educational!
- illing the jars is great for concentration and fine motor skills
- To really work on these- have your child use a spoon or measuring cup (instead of “dumping” the bag into the jar)
- By filling various sized jars, your child is getting a great lesson in volume and spatial awareness (math AND candy- who knew?)
- Questions to ask or ideas to point out…
- Does the same amount of candy fit in every jar?
- Does it take more big candy or little candy to fill the same jar?

Directions
- Bunch one tissue into a ball
- Lay the other tissue out flat
- Place balled tissue in the center of the flat one
- Gather up edges of flat tissue
- Twist pipe cleaner (or tie string or ribbon) under the balled tissue to create a “head”
- Use back marker to make eyes
Notes
- If your kids make several of these, you hang them from a dry tree branch in a vase for a spooky indoor “tree” or string them down your banister for a spooky staircase
Halloween Egg Carton Spiders
Supplies
- Clean, dry egg carton
- Black paint
- 2 light colored, small paper circles for eyes
- 2 black pipe cleaners, each cut in half (4 pieces total)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Push pin or large needle
Directions
- Cut out and trim one section of the egg carton (an adult should do this ahead of time)
- Paint egg carton section black for the spider’s body
- Once the paint is dry…
- Glue on eyes
- Have an adult poke 4 holes on either side of the body
- Take each pipe cleaner and push it in one side of the body and out the other for a leg on each side
- Bend pipe cleaner so legs look realistic
Notes
- This spider halloween preschool craft definitely takes some help from an adult. It helped me to have all of the pieces cut and prepped before starting.
- These are great for on top of pumpkins or sitting around the house to scare visitors!
"Thumb”-kin Patch Craft
***EASY Toddler Craft***
Supplies
- White paper
- Orange paint
- Green marker
Directions
- Put a small amount of the orange paint on a paper plate or in a bowl
- Put thumb in paint (now it gets difficult…)
- Press thumb onto paper. Repeat to make as many pumpkins as you want
- Once paint is dry, use green marker to draw vines and leaves
- Write “My ‘Thumb’kin Patch” at the top of paper
Notes
- My daughter actually brought this preschool halloween craft home from preschool (when she was 2). I thought it was so cute! Her teacher did the vines and leaves, but I think an older preschooler (3+) could probably do it herself
- I have also seen this idea done at a “paint your own pottery” shop. Use all of your kids thumbprints on a plate or bowl to create a great memory and conversation piece!
