Throwing a Valentine Party is as Easy as Saying "I Love You!"

Celebrate Valentine's Day by planning a family Valentine party!

Let's face it, if you have a preschooler or toddler at home, the chances are pretty slim that you will be going out for Valentine's Day. Use Valentine's Day to show your kids how much you love them and to teach them about friendship, love, and togetherness.

You can use some easy party ideas to put on a Valentine party for your family, playgroup, or preschool class. Happy Valentine's Day!

PARTY DECORATIONS

Your preschooler or toddler will love to help create party decorations for your Valentine's Day party. Combine handmade Valentine decorations with store bought red and pink crepe paper for a festive look. Use easy preschool valentine crafts to decorate your dining room or entire house. Here are some great ideas that your kids will love and that both toddlers and preschoolers can make:

Contact Paper Hearts Heart Monsters Paper Hearts

The paper hearts are so easy and are a great way for your toddler to participate... give your toddler a piece of paper and crayons to color with. When she is finished, cut a heart out of the paper and have her help glue it on top of a red construction paper heart. A cute and easy toddler craft! (Also- a great way for even your littlest one to make a Valentine)

PARTY ACTIVITIES

Your Valentine party can be as simple or involved as you choose. Your preschooler or toddler will love to have the entire family (or his whole playgroup):
  • Make paper Valentine crowns by gluing hearts onto strips of paper and stapling into a crown
  • Sing Valentine Songs
  • Make Valentines and Valentine Mailboxes and deliver them to each other
  • Make valentine party favors by filling jars or Valentine bags with candy hearts (or a healthy alternative)
  • Decorate heart shaped sugar cookies (I like to buy refrigerated sugar cookie dough, have the kids help roll and use cookie cutters, and frost and decorate after baking)

Teach your preschooler about love and friendship by doing the following Valentine activity with your family or friends:

Supplies
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Crayons or markers
  • Glue sticks

Directions
  1. Trace or print out enough hearts for each person to have one heart for each family member (or friend)... 4 people in your family means you need 16 hearts
  2. Provide each person with his own full sheet of paper and have him (or an adult help) write his name in the middle
  3. Ask each person to write (or trace or tell an adult to write) what he loves (or likes) most about each of the others (and himself)
  4. At the end everyone can keep their own sheet with with what everyone loves about them!

VALENTINE GIFTS

Valentine gifts should come from the heart. Have your kids make their own gifts to give to parents, grandparents, or other special valentines. Have your preschooler help make and decorate valentine cookies and place in individual bags for an easy handmade gift. Or... buy valentine flowers and allow your preschooler to use his creativity and arrange them in individual jars or vases as gifts.

Your preschooler will also love handing out valentines... both homemade valentines and store bought valentines. Help your preschooler practice writing skills by encouraging her to sign her name to each one (she can write the first letter, her whole name, or trace letters that you write.)

Looking for a special gift for your littlest Valentine? Of course he would love a new preschool toy, but you can also give him a handmade toy that comes from your heart. A valentine book or book about love is also an educational and easy valentine gift. Some of our favorites:

Remember the wrapping paper! Work together to stamp, place stickers on, or color paper or paper bags for toddler or preschooler-made wrapping paper.
